Our Home Renovation Journey - Tile Selection (Part II)

We were rather disappointed by the first draft of the 3D drawings. The overall look and feel of the drawings were really not what we have envisioned our home to be. We were expecting to confirm the designs of the house before the key collection. However, as we were not satisfied with the 3D drawings, we had to spend time to really re-think and try to salvage the situation.

It would have been perfect if we loved the 3D drawings and just a few days later receive the keys to our home. BUT... since it did not turn out the way that we expected, we decided to meet our ID, talk over it and head down to Hafary again to re-choose some of the tiles.

This time, we headed down to Hafary at Tradehub 21 after he finished doing the on-site inspection and measurements at our new house. Although the Tradehub outlet was smaller than the one that we visited in Eunos, but they still had a rather large selection of tiles for us to choose from.

We first started to look for a replacement for the floor tiles. Previously, we chose a light wood plank finish tiles for the flooring of the entire house. However, in the 3D drawings, as the tiles were rather thin, there would be quite alot of grouting which looked rather unsightly to us. The tiles in the 3D drawing was already thicker than what we chose. Somehow it looked really messy to us.

Hence we decided to go for 600x600 tiles to minimize the amount of grouting. After walking around for some time, husband decided to go for bigger tiles (750x750) and he found this. I liked this too as it didnt feel very slippery and the colour was nice too. Great job by husband (BOO~ to ID). 😂

We also chose a black textured tiles for the feature wall of the common bathroom, which we both forgot to take photo. 😆 I am actually kind of worried about the black tiles making the whole toilet look dark but ID and husband both think it will look nice so okay.. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

At first we were told that the floor tiles we wanted were reserved by someone else and that the new shipment was unknown. Hafary tried to call the people who reserved the tiles to get a confirmation but no one answered.

While waiting, we decided to confirm the laminates first. Previously, we told our ID that we wanted the colour scheme of the house to be grey and white with wood laminates. I guess because we first chose the wooden looking flooring so he proposed mostly solid coloured grey and white laminates for all the carpentry in the house. It really wasnt what we wanted.

Hafary gave us sample tiles for the flooring and the common bathroom feature wall. It was helpful to have the sample tiles. We told our ID to source from a range of neutral to warm wood laminates and we finally shortlisted the above combination. The light wood laminate for all the main carpentry and the grey one will be used for the TV feature wall.

We were actually quite disappointed because in the end we felt like our ID didnt coordinate the colours based on what we talked about. It was more like us choosing and coordinating the colours and everything by ourselves.

Anyway, as we were leaving Hafary, the sales person told us that the new shipment for the floor tiles we chose would be arriving end of November, which would be in time for us. 😊 We left our ID to arrange and do the paperwork.
