Our Home Renovation Journey - Our Design Preferences

After the booking of our unit, we were invited to go back to HDB Hub on 25th February 2018, 10:50 am to sign the lease agreement and pay the downpayment. Previously, the officer mentioned that the appointment will be scheduled within 6 months of the unit booking (1 June) but we did not hear anything so I emailed HDB and they scheduled us to go down on 25th February. Its like asking them to hurry take our money.. 😂

Here's the floor plan of our new home.. The projected completion date is end December 2018. Its still going to be quite a long while, we decided to start looking through completed projects of different ID firms, to save some pictures that we like and also shortlist some companies. Since we went for Sales of Balance Flat, we could not choose whether we wanted the flooring or the wall for the kitchen. Everything was already decided for us... So our unit does not come with floor tiles in the living room and bedrooms, has tiles (but we have no idea how the tiles look) for the kitchen and bathrooms and a full height wall separating the living area and the kitchen.

We had some ideas in mind that we hoped to have in our new home.
  • Have a built-in fish tank that is flushed in full height storage along the wall that we will have the TV
  • A settee beside a full height shoe cabinet
  • Construct half wall with glass panels for the suggested study, a full height built-in storage cabinet with open display in the middle and a built-in table for us to put our computers and do our work.

  • Similarly for the kitchen, we decided to hack and leave a half height wall with glass panels and a glass swing door. A quartz table top with coloured glass backsplash, built-in oven (hopefully a tall unit) and a drawer inventory for the provisions!! 😍😍

  • Incorporate some form of storage in the service yard area so that we can keep the detergents, mop, etc hidden properly. It would be best if the washer and dryer could be flushed together as well.
  • Have a U-shaped full height wardrobe with vanity in the master bedroom, so that if one of us it preparing for work, we wouldnt disturb the other who is sleeping. Have cove lighting on the bed headboard.

  • Install a storage vanity with quartz top for both bathrooms, mirror panels and glass shower screens with swing door.

  • Just going to be laying tiles in the two common bedrooms.
The design ideas may change as we go on but hopefully we can put everything together to most importantly suit our daily lifestyle, while still looking nice aesthetically. 😍 Really looking forward to our new home ~
