New Member of the Family ❤
We got married on 12th February 2018 and moved in to our new home in Bukit Batok West slightly before the Lunar New Year in 2019. Since moving in, we have started trying for a baby 👶.
After trying for roughly half a year, we decided to go for a fertility check at Mount Elizabeth Orchard in August 2019. The fertility check consist of a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound, semen analysis and a consultation with Dr Christine Yap. There was another blood test component that was omitted because I had the results from the Medical Checkup I did in late 2018. Basically the blood test concluded that hormone levels and all in my blood was normal.
From the ultrsound, Dr Yap mentioned that I had a retroverted uterus and slight endometrosis. Previously during the Medical Checkup, a cyst (approximately 1cm in diameter) was detected on both of my ovaries. Dr Yap checked again and verified that over a year, the size of both cysts did not increase, hence there was nothing that had to be done. Attempting to remove the relatively small cyst would only take away parts of the ovaries that are good, causing lesser surface area for a fertilized egg to latch on. Treating the endometrosis will also prevent successful conception. The semen analysis for husband on the other hand turned out everything was great.
All in all, Dr Yap told us to take it easy, not stress ourselves and continue to try for another year, before seeking help again. She highlighted that since my menstrual cycle was pretty regular, we should try from day 12-14 of my cycle.
From this fertility check, I got to understand my body better. Retroverted uterus, where the uterus tips backwards aiming towards the rectum instead of forward to the belly, occurs in about 20% of the women. This supposedly does not affect fertility but may cause pain in the vaginal during sexual intercourse or menstruation and increased urinary frequency or feelings of pressure in the bladder. Though the list goes on but those mentioned are the more common symptoms that affected me and I was unaware that it was because of this condition. As for the endometrosis and cysts, Dr Yap mentioned that through pregnancy where there is a surge in progesterone, entrometrosis will be suppressed and there is a possibility that pregnancy would cause the cysts to disappear on its own. Keeping our fingers crossed...

After almost a year of trying...... FINALLY A POSITIVE!! 😁
At day 39 of my cycle (6 January 2020), I sensed something was amiss since my menstrual cycle has never been so late before. Though I wasnt showing any pregnancy symptoms, I decided to test using an expired pregnancy test kit that was in my office drawer and the test came out positive! After going home, decided to test once more (with a kit that hasnt expired) before breaking the news to husband because I was worried that it would be a false alarm and it turned out positive again!
Handing it to husband in a white envelope, I think what I heard the most was probably "Are you sure? This means positive?" 😂 Decided to wait another week before testing again.
We also decided to visit the Baby Fair held at the Singapore Expo on the 11 January just to look around. Overwhelmed at the number of stuff we have to get and the amount of research that needs to be done for all the different products from baby stroller, breast pump, milk bottles, sterilizer, baby cots, baby carrier and even milk powder.
Test once again on 12 January 2020 using the Clearblue digital pregnancy kit and it came out positive again! :) Based on the Ovia Pregnancy app, the date of conception was 13 December 2019! Though I am not sure if its accurate. Decided to check with HR the medical benefits and they got back to me that medical expenses for pre and post-natal checkups at SGH and KKH would be free together with A-class ward, so I suppose we just have to pay for the delivery expenses.
With that in mind, we looked through the list of gynae in KKH and decided to go with a female gynae. With mixed reviews, I chose Dr Tan Kim Teng who was said to be a doctor with few words though she answers to patient's concerns raised patiently. I believe we do not have to confirm the gynae until the final trimester though its always good to follow through with one.
We went ahead to book our 1st gynae appointment at KKH with Dr Tan Kim Teng on the 30th January 2020, 1410 hrs. By then I would be at my 8th-9th week hence we should be able to do an ultrasound and meet our precious little one for the first time!!! 💓👶
