Second Gynae Visit at KKH
We are always excited for our Gynae appointment because it would mean we would get to see our precious baby 💜 Being able to see him/her with the flickering heartbeat, always gives me a sense of relief and happiness that I cant express.
Our appointment at KKH was at 2:20pm. We were both on half day leave and hub wanted to eat the Japanese rice bowl (Tendon Kohaku) so we met at Chinatown Point for lunch before heading down to KKH.
Similar to the first appointment, upon self-registration, I had to go to room 14 to get my height, weight, blood pressure and urine test done. Once that was done, we then waited outside room 23 to meet Dr Tan.
Once we were called into the room, Dr Tan checked with me if I was feeling okay and if there were any changes in terms of my pregnancy symptoms and all. I mentioned to her that my morning sickness has gotten slightly worst, throwing up mostly water and acid in the morning and feeling nausea again in the evening. I also highlighted to her about the slight spotting and my visit to the Urgent O&G clinic after the first appointment with her. She checked the blood test results from that visit and mentioned to me that the progesterone levels in my blood was in a good range and assured me that everything was alright.
She then asked to proceed with the ultrasound to check on baby. Since I am now at Week 10, Dr Tan said probably abdominal ultrasound would be clear enough. Once she could get a clear image of baby, she called hubs in. 3 weeks since our first appointment and our baby has grown to 3.9 cm. 😍 Baby also looks more human-like and we could make out his/her head, abdomen and legs.
What really made us melt was while Dr Tan was doing the ultrasound, baby woke up and we could see baby moving and stretching his/her hands and legs!! That moment was priceless and I could see hubs beaming. Everything was worth it.. 💜
Dr Tan mentioned that we could register for the screening for down syndrome and told us to proceed to the counselling room to decide which test we would want to do. She also highlighted that 9 days time, I would be in my second trimester! (totally caught us off guard) She prescribed multivitamins and DHA supplements to start once I move onto my second trimester.
We proceeded to the counselling room and was briefed on both First Trimester Screening (FTS) and Harmony or NIPT. Due to our age and having no family history of down syndrome, the counsellor advised us to go for FTS, which consist of a blood test and a detailed ultrasound. Although the accuracy of NIPT is higher (since they will extract baby's DNA from my blood) but they cannot guarantee that sufficient amounts can be detected for proper assessment and also KKH recommends the detailed ultrasound to pick up structural and heart defects which is more common compared to down syndrome.
We chose to go for FTS scan and the nurses informed that the appointment for the detailed ultrasound will be on 5th of March at 3:40pm. Hubs will be having his reservist then, so I would have to go for the ultrasound alone. :( I was also told to go have my bloods drawn as requested by Dr Tan and also for the FTS, that added up to 4 tubes of blood and left a hole in my arm!! 😭
We decided to drop by Beauty World Food Centre to have dinner. I ate carrot cake, hubs ate char kway teow and we shared a bowl of ice kachang.. Happy to be able to have that cold treat.
After a long day at KKH, we were both just relieved that our little one is doing fine and active 💜 Please continue to grow well, daddy and mommy cant wait to meet you. 😘
